String Of Pearls – Succulent Plant

Senecio rowleyanus, also known as String of Pearls plants grow as creeping vines on the ground. Their stems along crawls and root wherever they could touch toward ground. Usually grows in shade, protected by other taller plants. Their name “String of Pearls” came due to their appearance. Say they have pearls like spherical green colour leaves in a particular pattern. As they are perennial succulent with trailing stems that grow up to 91.5 cm. Each leaf has a lengthwise pellucid stripe. These spherical round leaves are like little green peas, which store water, giving them strength to tolerate drought. These leaves also have windows which appear like little slits from its centre. These windows are responsible for letting light in for photosynthesis processes. And in addition to their attraction these plant’s flowers are usually brush-like on long peduncles, but small & white. Hence, String of Pearls plants are good at survival and growing during summer season, making them suitable as indoor or as outdoor residence plants for gardens around UAE.
